Message from Graham Silverwood, Chair of STEP Development Trust

Posted August 25, 2010

Following up from the recent letters about Friday Folk published in the local Stocksbridge newspaper, Look Local by someone calling themselves 'Old Folkie'. We have been sent many messages of support and praise from our regular club visitors, guests and staff at The Venue.

We would like to thank Tina McKevitt, John Leary (who wrote to the paper in support of the club), The Venue's Manager Suzie Cross and Graham Silverwood (from the board of chairs behind the scenes at The Venue).

Graham sent the following message of support for the club:

"Charlie / John,

Thank you for taking time to write this letter and for your continued support to The Venue and your commitment to the Friday Folk Club. 'Old Folkie' really doesnt make much logical sense does he! Leaving before an event starts is a strange one, and given that it is free entry makes it even stanger.

No matter, his is a small quibble at the side of the many congratulatory comments that I hear from many others about the club and its guest players and most particularly the atmosphere.

I play badminton every Friday evening and so miss the majority of the club and usually only catch the tail end from the bar. I have seen numbers grow of not only those attending but those performing.

One of the great things for me is that it brings people from outside the area to The Venue.
Ron Trueman Border caught my attention the other week, he had an exceptional voice, almost Springsteen like.

In these very difficult times The Venue remains open despite the rumours and remains committed to the Friday Folk club and to the both of you. Thank you once again.

Graham Silverwood
Chair, STEP Development Trust"

Thanks for showing everyone we have a great community!
Charlie (& John)
