First Festival Success

Posted September 28, 2010

The weekend of 24th and 25th September came upon us very quickly and before we knew it the festival date had arrived. A surreal feeling after a year in preparation.

With everything in place, our two days of music started on the Friday night and ended with a triumphant climax on Saturday evening, where we all breathed a sigh of relief and wondered what we were going to do to fill the void of festival organising now?!?!

This first year was a great and interesting experience for us all and would like to thank all our Friday Folk supporters, the listeners and floor spot players who've supported the festival and our events in the run up to this new venture for us.

All our guests who came to play on the main Saturday event did it free of charge to support our chosen charity this year, the Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind. From our afternoon floor spot guests to the evening concert support and headliners a big thank you to you all.

We were joined by What Car? Driving School and Pictures of Sheffield Old & New who came to display at the event and also helped us raise money by offering prizes into the evening raffle.

In total, we raised £332.32 from all the ticket/ raffle and donation money you gave.

Thanks to our artists Anthony John Clarke & Ray Baguley, Steve Wise, John Watterson (Fake Thackray) and Harriet Bartlett who gave their time for free. To our wonderful stage and sound crew: Alex, John and Ben whose input and professionalism was key to making everything work so well and also our hospitality team, Max in the Green Room, Barbara and Graham in the kitchen and not forgetting The Venue's General Manager, Suzie Cross and the staff who spent endless days, weeks and months making sure everything was in place for the event to go ahead.

Well done everyone, you should be very proud.

Don't forget the launch of our 2nd Friday night's on 8TH OCTOBER with BBC Folk Award Horizon Nominees, Gilmore and Roberts in 2 weeks time. It is £4.50 on the door and there will be floor spot opportunities between 8-9pm and 10.30-11.30pm. Hope to see you there!
