Last night was the launch of the 2nd Friday nights for Friday Folk at The Venue, Stocksbridge and you all turned out to come see our fabulous guests, BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award nominees, Katriona Gilmore and Jamie Roberts. As a pay at the door event, it was a first for us and we were delighted to see a whole new audience discovering the club as well as our long term regulars.
With two stunning sets from Kat & Jamie the new night could not have had a better start, though sadly it also turned out to the be the last of our Friday Folk nights at The Venue.
From the week commencing 4th October we received news that although Friday Folk has been a success, there were problems with the night remaining in it’s current home and that The Venue could no longer support the club financially.
It is with regret that Friday Folk cannot continue at The Venue and we have had to cancel forthcoming events, which includes performers who were booked up to a year in advance. I cannot express to you my disappointment and frustration with this unexpected situation, which is totally out of our control.
The club will be taking a break for the remainder of 2010, while we look at options for the future. We are sorry for the disappointment and thank everyone who has come to support what has grown to be one of the friendliest nights around. To our guests, floor spot artists and regular listeners: we couldn’t have grown without your support.
It’s not all bad news though, John and I have a folk club, Dearne Valley Folk at the Park Inn at Wath near Rotherham on the 2nd Saturday every month and we have a year’s commitment for club nights until Sept 2011. It’s the same format as Friday folk, bring your instruments and plug in to the PA with free entry for all and a special guest. More information at: http://dearnevalleyfolk.wordpress.com.
Hope we will see you there and we will keep you up to date with our latest Friday Folk developments.
Sincere thanks,
Charlie (& John) Barker - Friday Folk/ The Partnership Media
